The Expressing & Colostrum Training Every Professional Supporting New Mothers Needs

A focused, evidence-based course that gives you the knowledge, the technique, and the confidence to support every mother with colostrum and hand expression — from your very first conversation.

The problem

Every day, mothers are handed a syringe and told to express.

Without a demonstration.

Without guidance

Without anyone explaining why it matters.

Some are told to bring formula in just in case — even when they want to breastfeed.

Some are never offered colostrum harvesting at all — because the professional in the room assumed it wasn’t relevant to them.

And some are lying in a hospital bed, syringes of colostrum sitting in a fridge on another ward, asking for help that never comes.

This isn’t because professionals don’t care.

It’s because they were never properly trained.

This course changes that.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"To be honest, I had no understanding of expressing and colostrum despite having worked in the community for many years — but now I do, and I use these skills literally every day. The feedback from parents has been amazing."

Midwife-led. Clinically grounded. Built from 18 years at the bedside.

This training was created by Louise Brandman — Registered Midwife, Registered Nurse, and Newborn Breastfeeding Specialist with 18 years' experience supporting families and professionals across maternity, neonatal, and community settings.

Louise's training is grounded in real-world clinical practice and shaped by a deep commitment to evidence-based, compassionate care. Her courses are informed by UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative standards and designed specifically for the professionals who make the biggest difference to breastfeeding outcomes.

What Makes This Course Different

This course was not written from a textbook.

  • It was written from 18 years of standing at the bedside.

  • From the mother on oxygen whose ten colostrum syringes meant her baby was fed while she was wheeled to the labour ward.

  • From the father who asked why nobody taught his wife before the baby came.

  • From the woman behind the curtain who said no thank you, I’m formula feeding — and then moved the curtain back and started to cry when she saw her own milk for the first time.

  • Real clinical experience. Real stories. Real change.

  • This is what good training looks like.

This Course Is For You if

  • You are a midwife, student midwife, or maternity support worker who wants to feel genuinely confident teaching hand expression — not just going through the motions.

  • You are a health visitor, GP, or practice nurse who encounters breastfeeding mothers and wants to give better, more informed support.

  • You are a doula, birth worker, or peer supporter who works with pregnant women and new mothers and wants a solid clinical foundation.

  • You are an aspiring lactation consultant building your knowledge base before formal IBCLC training.

  • You are anyone who has ever stood in front of a mother who needed help with expressing and felt unsure what to say.

  • No prior specialist training required. Just a commitment to supporting families well.
